Applications of wide-span shelving
Wide-span shelving is used in various warehouses and in production to store goods with a large volume and a manageable weight. The choice between wooden floors and steel shelves also ensures that the shelves can be easily adapted to your own range of goods, which, among other things, makes cleaning the shelves easier.
Although wide-span shelving offers sufficient space to store goods on Euro pallets, it is not designed for this type of load due to its statics. Special pallet racking is available in our range for such applications.
Different variants of wide span shelving in our range
We offer two different versions of wide-span shelving in our current range. The Emil wide-span shelving is designed for lower bay loads and is therefore a good solution if you want to store less heavy goods with a large volume. Lower bay and compartment loads mean less material is required and therefore costs are reduced. The Emil version is the right solution for you here.
If you are looking for a shelf with a very high shelf load and bay load , we can recommend the Emma variant . Bay loads of up to 7,500 kilograms and shelf loads of up to 750 kilograms ensure maximum load-bearing capacity. Both Emma and Emil are available with both wooden shelves and steel shelves. This means you can easily adapt your storage system to your warehouse.
Pay attention to the shelf load and bay load of the wide-span shelving
The load-bearing capacity of a wide-span shelving system is determined by two individual factors: the shelf load and the bay load. The shelf load indicates the maximum load that a shelf in the shelving system can take. The bay load, on the other hand, indicates the total load-bearing capacity of the shelf. Wide-span shelving systems must be loaded from bottom to top. This means that particularly heavy loads must be distributed across the lower shelves, while large but light loads are intended for the upper shelves. All loads should also be distributed evenly across the shelves if possible.
Safety instructions for wide-span shelving
The issue of safety always plays an important role in storage areas. First of all, the shelves must be assembled according to instructions to guarantee a stable hold. If several shelves are mounted on top of each other, they must be secured with floor anchors or wall fasteners above a certain height. For this reason, a load-bearing floor is important in which the floor anchors can be anchored to the required hole depth. Due to the design, the wide-span shelves can only be loaded and unloaded by hand. The use of industrial trucks is not permitted in these shelves. There are special pallet racks for this, which we also have in our range. Regardless of whether you are using steel shelves or wooden floors, care must be taken to ensure that the loads in the individual compartments not only do not exceed the compartment load, but are also evenly distributed.
Frequently asked questions about wide span shelving
Wide span shelving: plug-in system or screw system?
The question of whether a plug-in system or a screw system is preferable for a wide-span shelving system is not easy to answer. Due to the low mechanical stress on the shelving due to manual loading and unloading and also due to the greater flexibility, plug-in systems are generally much more practical. With professional assembly and high-quality materials, wide-span shelving with a plug-in system is absolutely safe to use.
Would you like advice and individual planning for your wide-span shelving?
Even though our wide-span shelving covers a very wide range of applications, there are special requirements and environmental conditions that make it difficult for our customers to make the right decision. We are happy to offer our customers individual advice and plan the appropriate shelving systems for them. We would be delighted if you contact us in such a case.
Do you require assembly of your wide-span shelving?
Even though assembly is easy thanks to the plug-in system, not all companies have the manpower and time to carry out the assembly themselves. We are happy to offer you a competent and reliable assembly service that will set up and secure the wide-span shelving according to your specifications.
Wide span shelving for outdoor use - are they suitable for outdoors?
Wide-span shelving can also be used outdoors, but must be protected from rain, as the water cannot drain off the shelves. A concrete base is also important to ensure that the shelves stand securely and to be able to secure them against tipping over with ground anchors. However, wide-span shelving is usually used indoors in storage areas.
What is the average service life for wide span shelving?
If the shelf load and bay load are maintained and the applicable safety regulations are also adhered to, modern shelving systems can be used for many years and decades. If the shelves are in a warehouse and are thus protected from environmental influences, the systems usually last a lifetime.
